Planting pace of new Brazilian soybean crop remains strong

     Porto Alegre, October 25, 2021 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop had another week of good evolution in most of the country’s producing states.

     Despite the rain in some regions, the machines advanced at a satisfactory pace, which kept the evolution of work above the five-year average for this period of the year.

     Anyway, delays are starting to be registered in the states of the southern region due to high moisture.

     According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until October 22, Brazilian growers sowed 35.8% of the total area expected for the country in the 2021/22 crop. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 14.258 million hectares, out of a total of the estimated planting of 39.820 million hectares. In the week earlier, the index was 21.1%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage reached 16.3%, while the five-year average for the period is 27.3%.

     In Rio Grande do Sul, from an expected total area of 6.12 million hectares, 0.5% of the area were sown. In the week earlier, there was no data. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 6%, while the five-year average for the period is 2.5%.

     In Paraná, 41% of the area destined for soybeans were sown. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 2.304 million hectares planted, out of a total of 5.620 million hectares estimated for the state. In the week earlier, the index was 35%. In the same period last year, the percentage reached 35%, while the five-year average is 49.0% for the period.

     In Mato Grosso, out of an expected total area of 10.82 million hectares, 69% have already been sown, equivalent to nearly 7.466 million hectares. In the week earlier, the index was 45%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 26%. The five-year average for the period is 46.6%.

     In Mato Grosso do Sul, the planting reaches 45% of an estimated total area of 3.45 million hectares, equivalent to approximately 1.553 million hectares. In the week earlier, the index was 14%, while in the same period last year, the percentage was 18%. The five-year average for the period is 34.2%.

     In Goiás, from a total area estimated at 3.835 million hectares, 37% were sown, equivalent to around 1.419 million hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 14%, while in the same period last year, the index was 12%. The five-year average for the period is 25.8%.

     In São Paulo, from a total area estimated at 1.185 million hectares, 36% were sown, or approximately 427 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 18%. In the same period of the previous year, the index was 5%, while the five-year average for the period is 12.8%.

     In Minas Gerais, the planting is 35% complete of a total area estimated at 1.88 million hectares, equivalent to approximately 658 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the index was 13%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 8%, while the five-year average for the period is 16.8%.

     In Bahia, from a total area estimated at 1.72 million hectares, 8% were sown, or nearly 138 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 2%, while in the same period last year the index was also 0%. The five-year average for the period is 3.1%.

     Weather forecasts point to another rainy period in most of the country between October 22 and 28, with strong accumulation expected for parts of Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Pará, Tocantins, Maranhão, and Piauí. The rain can prevent better progress in these states.

     In the period between October 29 and November 4, moisture must remain throughout the country, but with higher accumulation expected only for Minas Gerais and western Paraná.
