Porto Alegre, October 01th, 2024 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop advanced between September 21 and 27 but is still behind last year and the five-year average for the period. Farm machines even evolved well in the state of Paraná due to the arrival of rainfall but progressed very slowly in the state of Mato Grosso, maintaining the national average at low levels.

According to a survey conducted by SAFRAS & Mercado, through September 27, Brazilian growers planted 1.9% of the total area expected for the country in the 2024/25 season. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 886 thousand hectares sown, out of 47.401 mln hectares estimated for planting. The previous week, the percentage was 0.5%, while in the same period last year the percentage was 3.8%. The five-year average for the period is 2.7%.

In Paraná, 13% of the area destined for soybeans has been sown. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 767 thousand hectares planted, out of a total of 5.9 mln hectares estimated for the state. The previous week, the rate was 3%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 18%, while the five-year average for the period is 8.8%.

In Mato Grosso, out of a total expected area of 12.58 mln hectares, 0.6% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 75 thousand hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 0.3%. In the same period last year, the rate was 4%, while the five-year average for the period is 4.2%.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total estimated area of 4.35 mln hectares, 1% has been planted, or approximately 44 thousand hectares. The previous week, there was no data. In the same period last year, 2% had been planted. The five-year average for the period is 2.4%.

Climate maps now indicate a period of some moisture over the states of the Southern Region and Mato Grosso do Sul, between September 27 and October 3, with the other states of the Midwest and Southeast receiving little or no moisture. In view of this, it is likely that we will see more accumulated delays in sowing, mainly in the state of Mato Grosso.

In the period between October 4 and 10, moisture increases in the Southern Region, while the states of the Midwest and Southeast should also receive rain, but with smaller accumulations. It is possible that in view of this scenario, planting will begin and accelerate in some states, bringing some recovery to the accumulated delays.
