Harvest performs well again and hits 63% of 2020/21 season in Brazil
The harvest performed well again, taking advantage of favorable weather. The harvest increased by 7% over the previous week. Despite the good progress, it remains far below the average, especially when compared to the same period last year.
The weekly survey by SAFRAS indicates that, until July 14, the harvest of Brazil’s 20/21 season reached 63% of the production estimated at 68.10 million 60-kg bags. As a result, 42.86 million bags had already been reaped. The progress is well below the same period last year, when it reached 75% of production, but only slightly below the 5-year average of 64% for the period. The faster work pace in recent weeks explains this approach towards the average.
In the case of arabica, the harvest reaches 54% of production, against 68% at the same time last year, and in line with the 5-year average. The average quality profile of the cup and grain size confirms a good quality crop.
The conillon harvest is 84% complete. Despite this, it remains below the same period last year (90%) and also far below the 5-year average (93%). The COVID-19 protocol helps explain the progress of the work. The lower-than-expected performance in Espírito Santo in this final part of the harvest may lead to a downward revision in production. On the other hand, Bahia and Rondônia perform better than expected and can compensate for Espírito Santo’s losses.
