New soybean crop planting progresses well in Brazil

Porto Alegre, October 3, 2022 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop had a good advance last week in most states, which are now able to keep working after the end of local fallowing periods.

The regular climate, without excess or total lack of moisture, allowed agricultural machines to advance well in the states of the Midwest and Southeast, also allowing the states of Goiás and Minas Geras to start sowing.

On the other hand, in the South, a greater accumulation of rain prevented better work progress in Paraná.

According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until September 30, Brazilian growers sowed 4.5% of the total area expected for the country in the 2022/23 crop. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 1.926 million hectares sown, out of a total of 42.887 million hectares estimated for planting. In the previous week, the percentage was 2%. In the same period of the previous year, the index reached 4%, while the five-year average for the period is 3.1%.

In Paraná, 12% of the area destined for soybeans were sown. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 690 thousand planted hectares, out of a total of 5.750 million hectares estimated for the state. In the previous week, the percentage was 9%. In the same period last year, the index reached 9%, while the five-year average is 10.4% for the period.

In Mato Grosso, out of an expected total area of ​​11.85 million hectares, 7% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 830 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 2%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 8%. The five-year average for the period is 4.6%.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, the planting reaches 5% of a total area estimated at 3.85 million hectares, equivalent to approximately 193 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 2%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 5%. The five-year average for the period is 3%.

In Goiás, out of an expected total area of ​​4.2 million hectares, 3% were sown, equivalent to 126 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 0%. In the same period last year, the percentage was also 0%, while the five-year average for the period is 0.3%.

In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.25 million hectares, 7% were sown, or approximately 88 thousand hectares. In the week earlier, the percentage was 2%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 2%, while the five-year average for the period is 0.6%.

The weather maps now point to a period of some moisture, but without excess, in most states of the South, Midwest, and Southeast regions between October 1 and 7. Part of the North region must also receive some rains. The Northeast region must receive little or no moisture in the period.

Between October 8 and 14, conditions must be very similar, but with greater accumulation of moisture over the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná, while the states of the Northeast must also receive some more regular rains.
