Porto Alegre, October 28, 2026 – Arabica coffee has not only managed to sustain its recent gains but has also extended its advance above the 300 US cents per pound level on the New York exchange, taking the December 2026 contract as a reference. The movement reinforces short-term buying strength, driven by contract rollovers and investor repositioning ahead of important dates on the financial calendar.
The expiration of December 2026 options on November 12 and the first notice day for physical delivery on November 19 are increasing market activity. At the same time, producers are taking advantage of higher prices to expand their selling hedges, increasing selling pressure during rallies.
The December 2026 contract still accounts for the largest volume of open interest, although this figure has been declining as traders liquidate or transfer their positions to more distant contracts. This movement confirms the transition to March 2027 as the reference contract for transactions in Brazil’s physical coffee market.
The difference is that March 2027 is trading below the 300-cent level, while December 2026 remains higher. This shift in reference contracts highlights the influence of financial factors on the recent rally and helps explain the divergence between the strength of New York futures and a physical market that has not followed the movement with the same intensity.
