Porto Alegre, February 14, 2022 – The selling pace of Brazil’s 2021/22 soybean crop improved in January and the first days of February in some of the country’s important growing states, which helped boost the national percentage. The positive highlight is the state of Mato Grosso.

According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, with data collected through February 11, 44.1% of the 2021/22 Brazilian soybean crop were sold, up 11.6% from the previous month (32.5%). The current percentage is equivalent to approximately 56.125 mln tons out of an estimated crop of 127.168 mln tons. In the same period of the previous year, the index was 59.8%, while the five-year average for the period is 43.6%.

For the new Brazilian soybean crop (2022/23), the percentage sold reaches 5.8% of a still hypothetical crop. For purposes of calculation, we used the productive potential of the 2021/22 crop in November, before the weather problems that brought production down. The percentage is equivalent to roughly 8.457 mln tons of a hypothetical crop of 144.712 mln tons. The first estimate by SAFRAS & Mercado for the new Brazilian soybean crop (2022/23) traditionally takes place in July. Until then, this hypothetical productive potential will be used for the calculation.
