Now, rainfall is also slowing fieldwork in some regions, pushing a broader start of harvesting into July. Nevertheless, July is expected to be drier across producing regions, allowing harvest activities to accelerate. Therefore, the domestic market needs to adjust to the export equation in order to facilitate the movement of at least this initial harvest pressure. The entire domestic consuming sector is prepared to absorb significant volumes from this second crop and will take in most of the production. The remaining challenge is the surplus.

Harvesting in Mato Grosso continues to advance and should accelerate during July as field moisture declines. The concern lies with the other producing states, where rainfall, low temperatures, and delayed harvesting continue to slow progress. Nevertheless, harvesting will move forward, and yields will ultimately determine the true size of the 2026 crop. We already assessed production prospects in our previous edition; now it is simply a matter of harvest progress. Weather conditions over the next two weeks should be highly favorable for harvesting across the country. Paraná remains the only state expected to receive additional rainfall, where harvest progress should therefore remain slower.

From this point forward, the market’s focus shifts to harvesting, product flow, and demand absorption. The initial harvest should be fully absorbed by the domestic market, which has been waiting for greater supplies to meet demand and build inventories for later in the season. Regarding domestic demand, there are no concerns, and it will absorb its share of production as it does every year. The government’s proposal to increase the ethanol blend in gasoline from 30% to 32% does not affect corn demand, since corn demand for ethanol in 2026 has already been calculated based on the industry’s current maximum production capacity. Such a decision would significantly benefit sugarcane ethanol plants, at least this year. There are no new developments in the meat sector, meaning there are no changes involving the country’s largest corn-consuming industry.

Porto Alegre, July 3, 2026 – Brazil’s 2026 second corn crop was planted later in several states, already pointing to a delayed harvest.
