Porto Alegre, October 10, 2023 \u2013\u00a0The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop progressed at a slightly slower pace in the period between September 30 and October 6. Some excess moisture prevented better progress of work in states such as Paran\u00e1 and S\u00e3o Paulo, as well as micro-regions in other states in the Midwest and Southeast regions. This fact resulted in a lower-than-expected advance, now putting the pace below the five-year average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to research carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until October 6, Brazilian growers have sown 7.8% of the total area expected for the country in 2023\/24. The percentage is equivalent to nearly 3.581 mln hectares sown, out of a total of 45.619 mln hectares estimated for planting. In the previous week, the percentage was 3.8%, while in the same period of the previous year it was 9.7%. The five-year average for the period is 8.1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Paran\u00e1, 23% of the area destined for soybeans are sown. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 1.357 mln hectares, out of a total of 5.9 mln hectares estimated for the state. In the previous week, the percentage was 18%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 18%, while the five-year average for the period is 20.8%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Mato Grosso, out of an expected total area of 12.23 mln hectares, 14% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 1.712 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 4%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 49%, while the five-year average for the period is 14.2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 4.28 mln hectares, 6% were sown, or the equivalent of roughly 257 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 2%. In the same period in 2022, the percentage was 7%, while the five-year average for the period is 7.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Goi\u00e1s, out of an expected total area of 4.7 mln hectares, 4% were sown, or approximately 188 thousand hectares. The percentage was 1% in the previous week and 9% in the same period last year. The five-year average for the period is 4.0%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In S\u00e3o Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.4 mln hectares, 4% were sown, equivalent to around 56 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 2%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 11%. The five-year average for the period is 4.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Minas Gerais, out of an expected total area of 2.2 mln hectares, 0.5% were sown, or the equivalent of 11 thousand hectares. The week before, there was no data. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 4%, while the five-year average for the period is 2.6%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Climate maps now point to a period of greater moisture over the states of the South Region and part of the Southeast between October 8 and 14, which could prevent the work from progressing better. In the Midwest and part of the Southeast, rains are expected but in smaller volumes, which should allow work to progress well and also a good initial development of crops already sown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the period between October 15 and 21, conditions will be quite similar to those of the previous week, with greater accumulations being expected for the South region, but more specifically in Rio Grande do Sul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
