Porto Alegre, February 7, 2022 – Export registrations in Argentina have been reopened for the 2022 crop. Uncertainty about the size of this year\u2019s production is limiting the sales space in Argentine exports for 2022. After the record of 40 mln tons in 2021, the country could enter a downward curve in exports due to the production framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rainfall improved a lot in Argentina at the end of January and at the beginning of February in the main corn-growing regions of the country, the provinces of Buenos Aires, C\u00f3rdoba, and Santa F\u00e9. The losses are already significant from the northeast of the country to Santa F\u00e9. Therefore, the numbers for the local crop are reaching around 48 mln tons, against initial estimates of 54 mln tons. The government maintains estimates at 57 mln and has no update scheduled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This weather improvement at the end of January can still help later crops, which are entering the pollination and silking stage and\/or pod-filling stage. The Argentine crop is later, and the regional harvest peak only occurs from the second half of April. Therefore, there is still room in terms of climate to confirm the size of the Argentine crop, which is unlikely to stay above 48 mln tons this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Argentine government, however, reopened exports for 2022, limiting sales to 25 mln tons for the year, and will assess the production size to increase or decrease this volume to be sold abroad this year. In 2021, Argentina maintained its second place in world exports, with 40.2 mln tons, surpassing Ukraine and easily Brazil, which is finishing shipments at 21 mln tons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
