Porto Alegre, April 5, 2021 – The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean season had another good week in most of the main producing states of the country. The maintenance of slightly moist weather in most states favored the advancement of agricultural machines, resulting in another period of recovery from the accumulated delay at national level. In the Midwest and Southeast regions, the harvest entered the final stretch, leaving a few areas to be reaped.
According to a survey conducted by SAFRAS & Mercado, until April 1, 76.2% of a total sown area of 38.65 million hectares were reaped, equivalent to nearly 29.45 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 66.9%. In the same period last year, 82.2% of the area had already been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 76.9%.
In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total sown area of 6.08 million hectares, 27% were reaped, or roughly 1.64 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 11%. In the same period of the previous year, 59% had already been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 38.4%.
In Paraná, out of a total area of 5.6 million hectares sown, 90% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 5.04 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 78%. In the same period last year, 95% were already reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 88.8%.
In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 10.3 million hectares, 99% were reaped, or roughly 10.2 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 97%. In the same period last year, 100% had already been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 98.3%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total sown area of 3.25 million hectares, 98% were reaped, or approximately 3.18 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 86%. In the same period of the previous year, 100% had already been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 99%.
In Goiás, out of a total sown area of 3.795 million hectares, 95% were reaped, or roughly 3.61 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 89%. In the same period last year, 95% had already been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 93%.
In São Paulo, out of a total sown area of 1.16 million hectares, 93% were reaped, or approximately 1.08 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 87%. In the same period of the previous year, 96% had already been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 94.6%.
In Minas Gerais, out of a total area estimated at 1.82 million hectares, 92% were reaped, or roughly 1.67 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 82%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage reaped reached 91%. The five-year average for the period is 84.6%.
In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 1.7 million hectares, 32% were reaped, or approximately 544 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 22%. In the same period last year, 35% had already been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 33.4%.
Weather maps point to a week of low moisture in most of the country’s main producing states between April 1 and 7. This fact must favor the advancement of the harvest in all states, helping the recovery of accumulated delay. In the period between April 8 and 14, only the South Region and the central section of Mato Grosso must receive some moisture, while the other regions must continue with little rainfall.
