Porto Alegre, September 26, 2023 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop is beginning to gain pace in the country, although only three states have put machines in the fields.

The machines only advanced in states where the sanitary emptiness ended until last week, including Paraná, Mato Grosso, and São Paulo.

Other states will be able to start working in the coming few days, which must accelerate the work pace.

According to research carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until September 22, Brazilian growers had sown 1.6% of the total area expected for the country in the 2023/24 crop. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 724 thousand hectares sown, out of a total of 45.619 mln hectares estimated for planting. In the previous week, the percentage was 0.3%, while in the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 2%. The five-year average for the period is 1.3%.

In Paraná, 8% of the area destined for soybeans were sown. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 472 thousand hectares planted, out of a total of 5.9 mln hectares estimated for the state. In the previous week, the percentage was 1%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 9%, while the five-year average for the period is 6%.

In Mato Grosso, out of an expected total area of 12.23 mln hectares, 2% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 245 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 0.5%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 2%, while the five-year average for the period is 1.2%.

In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.4 mln hectares, 0.5% were sown, equivalent to approximately 7 thousand hectares. The week before, there were no comparative data. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 2%. The five-year average for the period is 0.4%.

The climate maps now point to a period of some moisture between September 24 and 30 over the states of the Midwest and Southeast regions, although again without large accumulations being expected. In any case, some micro-regions of these same states are not likely to receive precipitation. In the South region, greater accumulations are expected in Rio Grande do Sul, while the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina must receive little rain.

In the period between October 1 and 7, moisture increases in most parts of the country. The South region is expected to receive heavy rainfall during the period. In the Midwest and Southeast, all states must receive rain, with greater accumulations being expected for the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais. In the North and Northeast regions, the states of Bahia, Tocantins, and Pará must receive some precipitation, but with lower accumulations.
