Porto Alegre, November 30, 2020 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop had another week of ‘mixed’ evolution. In the Midwest and Southeast regions, the work progressed well and entered the final stretch. In the South, there was a slower evolution in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, while in Paraná the work also advanced to the final stretch. In the North and Northeast, the business pace was strong in Bahia, with the other states registering a more timid evolution. The sowing pace is again lagging behind the normal national average.
According to a survey conducted by SAFRAS & Mercado, until November 27, Brazilian producers sowed 83.3% of the total area expected for the country. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 31.922 million hectares sown, out of a total of 38.325 million hectares estimated for planting in the country. In the previous week, the index was 74.1%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage reached 84.3%, while the five-year average for the period is 84.8%.
In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 6.08 million hectares, 48% were sown, or approximately 2.92 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 36%, while in the same period last year it reached 73%. The five-year average for this time of year is 66.6%.
In Paraná, 99% of the area destined for soybeans have been sown. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 5.54 million hectares planted, out of a total of 5.6 million hectares estimated for the state. In the previous week, the index was 95%. In the same period last year, the percentage reached 99%, while the five-year average is 96.2% for the period.
In Mato Grosso, out of an expected total area of 10.29 million hectares, 99% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 10.19 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 96%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 99%. The five-year average for the period is 97.6%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 3.25 million hectares, 99% have already been sown, equivalent to nearly 3.22 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 95%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 92%, while the five-year average for the period is 97.8%.
In Goiás, out of a total expected area of 3.795 million hectares, 88% were sown, or approximately 3.34 million hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 69%, while in the same period last year the percentage was 85%. The five-year average for the period is 91.4%.
In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.08 million hectares, 87% were sown, or nearly 940 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 50%, while in the same period of the previous year the percentage was 96%. The five-year average for the period is 94.2%.
In Minas Gerais, out of a total estimated area at 1.755 million hectares, 92% were sown, or approximately 1.62 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 86%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 83%, while the five-year average for the period is 86.6%.
In Bahia, out of a total area estimated at 1.67 million hectares, 80% were sown, or nearly 1.34 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 47%, while in the same period last year the percentage was 55%. The five-year average for the period is 65.8%.
In Santa Catarina, the planting is 70% complete of an expected total area of 750 thousand hectares, which is equivalent to approximately 525 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the index was 65%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 95%, while the average for the period is 87.4%.
Weather forecasts point to little or no moisture in the Midwest, Southeast, Northeast and part of the North region in the period between up to December 3, which again raises concerns. In the South, significant rainfall is expected, which must be favorable for the recovery of soil moisture, mainly in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.
In the period between December 4 and 10, it must rain in most producing states, but with a very low volume of accumulation.
