Soybean planting advances to final stretch in Brazil

    Porto Alegre, December 15, 2020 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop progressed satisfactorily in the main growing states and is already moving towards the final stretch in the country.

     According to a survey conducted by SAFRAS & Mercado, until December 11, Brazilian growers sowed 93.5% of the total area expected for the country. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 35.91 million hectares, out of a total of 38.415 million hectares estimated for planting in the country. In the previous week, the index was 88.9%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage reached 94.2%, while the five-year average for the period is 94.3%.

     In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 6.08 million hectares, 81% were sown, or roughly 4.93 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 62%, while in the same period last year it reached 91%. The five-year average for this time of year is 89.4%.

     In Paraná, 100% of the area destined for soybeans have been sown, or approximately 5.6 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 100%. In the same period last year, the percentage reached 100%, while the five-year average is 99.4% for the period.

     In Mato Grosso, out of a total expected area of ​​10.3 million hectares, 100% have been sown. In the previous week, the index was 100%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 100%. The five-year average for the period is 99.6%.

     In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 3.25 million hectares, 100% were sown. In the previous week, the index was 100%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 100%, while the five-year average for the period is 100%.

     In Goiás, out of a total expected area of ​​3.795 million hectares, 97% were sown, or nearly 3.68 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 94%, while in the same period last year the percentage was 99%. The five-year average for the period is 99%.

     In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.08 million hectares, 99% were sown, or approximately 1.07 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 95%, while in the same period of the previous year the percentage was 99%. The five-year average for the period is 99.2%.

     In Minas Gerais, out of a total area estimated at 1.82 million hectares, 99% were sown, or roughly 1.8 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 95%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 99%, while the five-year average for the period is 97.4%.

     In Bahia, out of a total area estimated at 1.67 million hectares, 99% were sown, or around 1.65 million hectares. In the previous week, the index was 90%, while in the same period last year the percentage was 90%. The five-year average for the period is 89.4%.

     In Santa Catarina, the planting is 95% complete of an expected total area of ​​750 thousand hectares, which is equivalent to approximately 713 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the index was 85%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 99%, while the average for the period is 98.2%.

     Weather forecasts point to reasonable moisture in most of the South and Southeast regions in the period between December 11 and 17. The other areas of these regions, as well as the entire Midwest, must also receive moisture, but at lower levels. The North and Northeast regions must receive little or no moisture in the period.

     In the period between December 18 and 24, the rain must affect practically the whole country, albeit in not very high volumes in most states.
