Soybean planting advances at slower pace but recovers delay in Brazil

Porto Alegre, November 16, 2020 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop was slightly slower last week. Although the little moist climate allowed agricultural machines to advance, it also worried some growers again, preventing a better advance. Despite this, the accumulated delays since the beginning of sowing were recovered, and the work returned to the normal average for this time of year.

According to a survey conducted by SAFRAS & Mercado, until November 13, Brazilian growers sowed 67.3% of the total area expected for the country. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 25.786 mln hectares, out of a total of 38.325 mln hectares estimated for the planting in the country. In the previous week, the index was 54.2%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage reached 65.9%, while the five-year average for the period is 64.7%.

In Paraná, 87% of the area for soybeans were sown. The percentage is equivalent to nearly 4.87 mln hectares planted, out of a total of 5.6 mln hectares estimated for the state. In the previous week, the index was 83%. In the same period last year, the percentage reached 91%, while the five-year average is 86.6% for the period.

In Mato Grosso, out of a total expected area of ​​10.29 mln hectares, 93% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 9.57 mln hectares. In the previous week, the index was 82%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 97%. The five-year average for the period is 89.5%.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 3.25 mln hectares, 90% have already been sown, equivalent to nearly 2.93 mln hectares. In the previous week, the index was 65%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 85%, while the five-year average for the period is 87.8%.

In Goiás, out of a total expected area of ​​3.795 mln hectares, 61% were sown, or approximately 2.32 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 52%, while in the same period last year the percentage was 63%. The five-year average for the period is 68.4%.

In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.08 mln hectares, 30% were sown, or roughly 324 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the index was 25%, while in the same period of the previous year the percentage was 84%. The five-year average for the period is 70%.

In Minas Gerais, out of a total area estimated at 1.755 mln hectares, 62% were sown, around 1.09 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 44%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 57%, while the five-year average for the period is 54.4%.

In Bahia, out of a total area estimated at 1.67 mln hectares, 40% were sown, or approximately 668 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the index was 20%, while in the same period last year the percentage was 7%. The five-year average for the period is 21.8%.

In Santa Catarina, the planting is 50% complete of an expected total area of ​​750 thousand hectares, which is equivalent to roughly 375 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the index was 35%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 65%, while the average for the period is 58.6%.

Climate forecasts point to the return of moisture in practically all producing regions in the period between November 13 and 19. In the period between November 20 and 26, the South region and some states in the Southeast and Midwest regions must receive little rainfall, while other states in the central strip and in the North and Northeast regions of the country must receive a good volume of precipitation.
