Porto Alegre, March 15, 2022 – The harvest for the new Brazilian soybean season had again a week of considerable progress in most of the country’s producing states. Work continues to evolve at a satisfactory pace, despite some excess moisture in some states. The harvest remains above average for this season.
According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until March 11, 60.5% had been reaped from a total planted area of 40.78 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 24.685 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 50.5%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 45.7%. The five-year average for the period is 51.6%.
In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total planted area of 6.3 mln hectares, 7% were reaped, or approximately 441 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 4%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 2%. The five-year average for the period is 5.5%.
In Paraná, of a total area of 5.65 mln hectares sown, 59% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 3.334 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 37%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 39%, while the five-year average for the period is 55.2%.
In Mato Grosso, of a total sown area of 10.9 mln hectares, 96% were reaped, or approximately 10.464 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 90%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 80%. The five-year average for the period is 87.4%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, of a total sown area of 3.8 mln hectares, 81% were reaped, or approximately 3.078 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 62%. In the same period of the previous one, the percentage was 66%, while the five-year average for the period is 74.8%.
In Goiás, of a total sown area of 3.94 mln hectares, 84% were reaped, or approximately 3.31 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 71%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 62%. The five-year average for the period is 64%.
In São Paulo, of a total sown area of 1.22 mln hectares, 43% were reaped, or approximately 525 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 34%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 65%, while the five-year average for the period is 55.4%.
In Minas Gerais, of a total area estimated at 2 mln hectares, 46% were reaped, or approximately 920 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 35%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage reaped was 47%. The five-year average for the period is 46.6%.
In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 1.78 mln hectares, 34% were reaped, or approximately 605 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 27%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 11%. The five-year average for the period is 15%.
Weather reports point to some moisture in some states in the South, Southeast and Midwest regions in the period between March 11 and 17. Some locations in the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás must receive heavier rainfall, as well as sections of the states of Tocantins, Piauí, Maranhão, and Pará.
In the period between March 18 and 24, moisture decreases in most of the South, Southeast and midwest regions, while some parts of the state of Mato Grosso may continue to receive higher accumulation. Once again, the states of Tocantins, Piauí, Maranhão and Pará must receive higher accumulated volumes in the period.
