Soybean harvest is practically finished in some Brazilian states

     Porto Alegre, March 29, 2022 – The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean season registered slightly slower progress last week but remains at a ‘normal’ level for this time of year. With the work already well advanced in the Midwest and Southeast, with the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul with the harvest virtually over, the pace is moving a little slower in the last areas to be reaped. Even so, work remains above the five-year average for this period in most states and at national level.

     According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until March 25, 76.4% had been reaped from a total planted area of 40.78 mln hectares, equivalent to nearly 31.150 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 69.9%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 66.9%. The five-year average for the period is 68.9%.

     In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total planted area of 6.3 mln hectares, 15% were reaped, or nearly 945 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 10%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 11%. The five-year average for the period is 20.6%.

     In Paraná, out of a total area of 5.65 mln hectares sown, 80% were reaped, or the equivalent of nearly 4.520 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 72%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 78%, while the five-year average for the period is 78.8%.

     In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 10.9 mln hectares, 99% were reaped, or nearly 10.791 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 99%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 97%. The five-year average for the period is 97.4%.

     In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total sown area of 3.8 mln hectares, 99% were reaped, or nearly 3.762 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 96%. In the same period of the previous one, the percentage was 86%, while the five-year average for the period is 94.8%.

     In Goiás, out of a total sown area of 3.94 mln hectares, 96% were reaped, or nearly 3.782 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 91%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 89%. The five-year average for the period is 85.2%.

     In São Paulo, out of a total sown area of 1.22 mln hectares, 85% were reaped, or nearly 927 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 76%. In the same period of the previous one, the percentage was 87%, while the five-year average for the period is 86.8%.

     In Minas Gerais, out of a total area estimated at 2 mln hectares, 87% were reaped, or nearly 1.74 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 78%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 82%. The five-year average for the period is 74.2%.

     In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 1.78 mln hectares, 69% were reaped, or nearly 1.228 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 43%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 22%. The five-year average for the period is 23%.

     Weather forecasts point to more moisture over the South Region and some states in the Midwest and Southeast in the period between March 25 and 31. In addition, the North Region should receive a large volume of precipitation in the period.

     Between April 1 and 7, the rains are concentrated in the North Region and in part of Mato Grosso, with the other states receiving little or no moisture.
