Porto Alegre, May 20, 2024 – The soybean harvest reached 63.7% in Argentina up to May 15. According to the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange, the weather allowed for better progress, which in the previous week reached 47.8% of the area.
The surface is estimated at 17.3 mln hectares. Last year, the country sowed 16.2 mln hectares. The country’s crop is projected at 50.5 mln tons.
In absolute numbers, 34.413 mln tons have already been reaped in 10.86 mln hectares. The area suitable for harvesting is 17.059 mln hectares.
Crop conditions are divided into good (24%), fair (48%) and poor (28%). The week earlier, they were at 27%, 47%, and 26%, respectively. In the same period last year, at 14%, 48% and 48%. The water deficit reaches 20% of the area, compared to 14% last week and 42% a year ago. Excess moisture affects 1% of crops, compared to 2% the week earlier.
The forecast maps now point to a period of little or no moisture in the main Argentine growing provinces between May 17 and 23, which should once again allow for farm machines to advance well.
In the period between May 24 and 30, the moisture increases a little, but not to the point of largely preventing the progress of machines.
