Porto Alegre, April 9, 2024 – The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean season advanced approximately 5% between March 28 and April 5, approaching the final phase. However, states located further north in the country are maintaining a slower pace due to rain, which has limited the progress of farm machines.
According to research carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, as of April 5, 78.2% were reaped from a total sown area of 45.409 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 35.488 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 73.4%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 80.8%. The five-year average for the period is 83%.
In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total sown area of 6.6 mln hectares, 18% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 1188 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 8%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 19%. The five-year average for the period is 41.2%.
In Paraná, out of a total area of 5.9 mln hectares sown, 97% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 5.723 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 89%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 92%, while the five-year average for the period is 93.4%.
In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 12.1 mln hectares, 99% were reaped, or approximately 11.979 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 99%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 99%. The five-year average for the period is 99.8%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of the estimated total area of 4.28 mln hectares sown, 98% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 4.194 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 97%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 99%, while the five-year average for the period is 99.6%.
In Goiás, out of a total sown area of 4.65 mln hectares, 91% were reaped, or approximately 4.232 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 85%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 96%. The five-year average for the period is 97%.
In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.4 mln hectares sown, 90% were reaped, or approximately 1.260 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 85%. In the same period last year, 86% had been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 93.4%.
In Minas Gerais, out of a total sown area of 2.2 mln hectares, 90% were reaped, equivalent to approximately 1.980 mln hectares. The week earlier, the percentage was 82%. In the same period last year, 92% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 93%.
In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 2 mln hectares, 60% were reaped, or approximately 1.2 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 55%. In the same period last year, 75% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 61.8%.
When analyzing climate maps, we found that heavy rainfall still covered the Midwest states and, especially, the Northern region of the country between April 5 and 12, which will probably leave the harvest still slow in these areas. For the subsequent period, between April 12 and 18, no significant change in this scenario is expected, with moisture remaining high and the heaviest rainfall occurring in the North.
