Planting of new Brazilian crop maintains good pace

Porto Alegre, November 18th, 2024 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop once again progressed well between November 2 and 8. Despite some excess moisture in parts of Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo, the planting made considerable progress nationwide, keeping the work pace above the five-year average.

According to a survey conducted by SAFRAS & Mercado, up to November 14, Brazilian growers had planted 78.2% of the total area expected for the country in 2024/25. The rate is equivalent to approximately 37.091 mln hectares planted, out of a total of 47.401 mln hectares estimated for planting. The previous week, the rate was 69.1%, while in the same period last year the rate was 68.2%. The five-year average for the period is 71.1%.

In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 6.87 mln hectares, 38% were sown, or approximately 2.611 mln hectares. The previous week, 24% were sown, while in the same period last year the rate was 23%. The five-year average is 28.6%.

In Paraná, 94% of the area destined for soybeans were sown. The percentage is equivalent to approximately 5.546 mln hectares planted, out of a total of 5.9 mln hectares estimated for the state. The previous week, the rate was 88%. In the same period last year, the rate was 87%, while the five-year average for the period is 90.6%. In Mato Grosso, out of a total expected area of ​​12.58 mln hectares, 98% have already been sown, equivalent to around 12.328 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 94%. In the same period last year, the rate was 97%, while the five-year average for the period is 97.0%.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total estimated area of ​​4.35 mln hectares, 97% have been sown, or approximately 4.22 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 88%. In the same period last year, 86% had been sown. The five-year average for the period is 91.2%.

In Goiás, of an expected area of ​​4.85 mln hectares, 90% have been sown, or approximately 4.365 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 83%. In the same period last year, the rate was 70%, while the five-year average for the period is 74.2%.

In São Paulo, out of a total expected area of ​​1.44 mln hectares, 87% were sown, or approximately 1.253 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 77%. In the same period last year, 63% had been sown. The five-year average for the period is 68.4%.

In Minas Gerais, 78% were sown, or approximately 1.833 mln hectares of a total area estimated at 2.35 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 70%. In the same period last year, 60% had been sown. The five-year average for the period is 65.2%.

In Bahia, out of a total expected area of ​​2.1 mln hectares, 60% have been planted, or approximately 1.26 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 35%. In the same period last year, the rate was 45%, while the five-year average for the period is 41.6%.

The climate maps now indicate a period of significant rainfall over the states of Goiás and Mato Grosso, in addition to the states of the North and Northeast regions between November 16 and 22. The states of the South, besides Mato Grosso do Sul, should receive little or no moisture, while the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo should receive reasonable moisture.

Between November 23 and 29, moisture will once again spread throughout the country, with large accumulations of rain expected for the states of the Center-North, in addition to the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
