Porto Alegre, November 25th, 2024 – The planting of the new Brazilian soybean crop again advanced at a good pace in the country’s main producing states between November 15 and 21. The pace remains above the same period last year and the five-year average for the period, which indicates that the initial delays have been fully overcome in the current season. In general, the climate continues to be favorable for the development of crops already sown, despite some excess moisture and low luminosity levels drawing attention in some states in the Midwest.
According to a survey conducted by SAFRAS & Mercado, through November 22, Brazilian growers planted 85.6% of the total area expected for the country in the 2024/25 season. The rate is equivalent to approximately 40.59 mln hectares sown, out of a total of 47.401 mln hectares estimated for planting. The previous week, the rate was 78.2% while in the same period last year the rate was 75.1%. The five-year average for the period is 79.3%.
In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total area estimated at 6.87 mln hectares, 52% were sown, or approximately 3.572 mln hectares. The previous week, 38% were sown while in the same period last year the rate was 26%. The five-year average is 46.0%.
In Paraná, 98% of the area destined for soybeans were sown. The rate is equivalent to approximately 5.782 mln hectares planted, out of a total of 5.9 mln hectares estimated for the state. The previous week, the rate was 94%. In the same period last year, the rate was 96% while the five-year average for the period is 96.4%.
In Mato Grosso, out of a total expected area of 12.58 mln hectares, 99% have already been sown, equivalent to approximately 12.454 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 98%. In the same period last year, the rate was 99%, while the five-year average for the period is 98.6%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of a total estimated area of 4.35 mln hectares, 100% were sown. The previous week, the rate was 97%. In the same period last year, 98% had been sown. The five-year average for the period is 95.8%.
In Goiás, out of an expected area of 4.85 mln hectares, 99% were sown, or nearly 4.656 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 90%. In the same period last year, the rate was 78%, while the five-year average for the period is 82.4%.
In São Paulo, out of a total expected area of 1.44 mln hectares, 95% were sown, or approximately 1.368 mln hectares. In the previous week, the rate was 87%. In the same period last year, 72% were sown. The five-year average for the period is 78.6%.
In Minas Gerais, 90% were sown, or roughly 2.115 mln hectares of a total area estimated at 2.35 mln hectares. In the previous week, the rate was 78%. In the same period last year, 70% were sown. The five-year average for the period is 80.0%.
In Bahia, out of a total expected area of 2.1 mln hectares, 90% were sown, or approximately 1.89 mln hectares. The previous week, the rate was 60%. In the same period last year, the rate was 65%, while the five-year average for the period is 56.0%.
The climate maps now indicate a period of significant rainfall over the states of Goiás, Mato Grosso, and Bahia and sections of the states of Minas Gerais and Tocantins between November 22 and 28. The other states in the country should receive little or no moisture during the period.
From November 29 to December 5, higher moisture is expected for the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Goiás, and Tocantins and for part of the states of Mato Grosso, Bahia, Piauí, Maranhão, and Pará. The other states should receive little or no moisture during the period.
