New season soybean harvest continues at slow pace in Brazil

The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean crop is progressing in the states of the Southeast and Midwest regions, besides the state of Paraná, but continues at a slow pace and below average in most states.

Excess moisture prevents better evolution of machines, mainly in the Midwest and Southeast. In Paraná, the advance is slow due to the delay in the maturation of crops. Despite this, there are no major concerns regarding the quality of crops in these states.

According to research carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, up to January 27, 4.4% had been reaped from a total sown area of 43.749 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 1.921 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 1.7%. In the same period of the year earlier, the percentage was 11.3%. The five-year average for the period is 6.2%.

In Paraná, from a total area of 5.75 mln hectares sown, 2% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 115 thousand hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 0.5%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 13%, while the five-year average for the period is 7%.

In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 11.8 mln hectares, 14% were reaped, or approximately 1.652 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 6%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 31%. The five-year average for the period is 17.2%.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, 1% was reaped, or the equivalent to approximately 41 thousand hectares of a total sown area of 4.08 mln hectares. The previous week, there was no data. In the same period last year, 7% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 3.2%.

In Goiás, out of a total sown area of 4.46 mln hectares, 2% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 89 thousand hectares. The previous week, there was no data. In the same period last year, 3.5% had been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 1.9%.

In São Paulo, out of a total sown area of 1.35 mln hectares, 1% was reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 14 thousand hectares. The week earlier has no data. In the same period last year, 3% had been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 1.4%.

In Minas Gerais, 0.5% were reaped, or the equivalent to approximately 11 thousand hectares of a total sown area of 2.1 mln hectares. The previous week, there was no data. In the same period last year, 3% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 2%.

The weather maps point to a period of some moisture, but not very high, in the states of the Southern Region in the period between January 27 and February 2. The states in the Southeast, Midwest, and North regions must receive greater precipitation, except for some micro-regions. The states in the Northeast Region must receive irregular rainfall, except for the state of Bahia, which must receive little or no moisture.

In the period between February 3 and 9, moisture increases in the South, but it is not likely to be significant. The other regions must have conditions similar to the previous week, but in Mato Grosso the accumulated rainfall must slightly decrease, while in São Paulo and part of Minas Gerais the accumulated rainfall must be high.
