Harvest of new Brazilian soybean crop reaches around 83.8%

Porto Alegre, April 17, 2024 – The harvest continues to progress reasonably and is beginning to head toward the final stretch, showing an increase of 5.6% in the period between April 5 and 12.

According to research carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, through April 12, 83.8% were reaped from a total sown area of 45.409 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 38.207 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 78.2%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 86%. The five-year average for the period is 87.6%.

In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total sown area of 6.7 mln hectares, 36% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 2.412 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 18%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 34%. The five-year average for the period is 54%.

In Paraná, out of a total area of 5.9 mln hectares sown, 99% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 5.941 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 97%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 99%, while the five-year average for the period is 98%.

In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 12.1 mln hectares, 99% were reaped, or approximately 12.019 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 99%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 100%. The five-year average for the period is 100%.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of the total estimated area of 4.28 mln hectares sown, 99% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 4.237 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 98%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 99%, while the five-year average for the period is 100%.

In Goiás, out of a total sown area of 4.65 mln hectares, 96% were reaped, or approximately 4.464 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 91%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 99%. The five-year average for the period is 98%.

In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.4 mln hectares sown, 95% were reaped, or approximately 1.330 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 90%. In the same period last year, 97% had been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 98%.

In Minas Gerais, out of a total sown area of 2.2 mln hectares, 95% were reaped, equivalent to approximately 2 mln hectares. Last week, the percentage was 90%. In the same period last year, 96% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 96%.

In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 2 mln hectares, 75% were reaped, or approximately 1.5 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 60%. In the same period last year, 82% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 71%.

Short-term weather forecasts indicate an increase in rain mainly in the North region, but also in the Midwest and South of the country, from April 12 to 18. In the period between April 19 and 25, rainfall is expected to remain high in the North, while decreasing in other regions.
