Porto Alegre, September 9, 2020 – On the eve of the planting, expectations are favorable for the 2020/21 Brazilian soybean crop. With good profitability, high exports, and a positive scenario, growers must cultivate a record area. With favorable weather, production is likely to exceed 132 million tons.
Brazilian soybean production in 2019/20 must hit 132.171 million tons, up 5.5% from the previous season’s crop, which stood at 125.339 million tons. The review was released by SAFRAS & Mercado last Friday. On July 17, the date of the previous report, the projection was 131.691 million tons.
With the planting about to start, SAFRAS indicates an increase of 1.8% in the area, estimated at 37.94 million hectares. In 2019/20, the planting occupied 37.272 million hectares. In the previous survey, the planting was projected at 37.804 million hectares. The survey indicates that average productivity should increase from 3,380 to 3,501 kg/ha.
The upward review in the estimate for the 2019/20 season stemmed from a small adjustment in the size of the final area of Mato Grosso. For 2020/21, the estimate rose slightly due to a fine adjustment in the expected area in the states of Mato Grosso and Roraima.
