Porto Alegre, March 5, 2024 – The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean season had a week of good progress in the period between February 24 and March 1.
According to research carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until March 1, 45.7% were reaped from a total sown area of 45.409 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 20.73 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 37.4%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 39.7%. The five-year average for the period is 41.8%.
In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total sown area of 6.6 mln hectares, 0.5% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 33 thousand hectares. In the previous week, there were no data. In the same period last year, the percentage was 0%. The five-year average for the period is 2.1%.
In Paraná, out of a total area of 5.9 mln hectares sown, 56% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 3.304 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 45%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 23%, while the five-year average for the period is 36.2%.
In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 12.1 mln hectares, 86% were reaped, or approximately 10.406 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 78%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 88%. The five-year average for the period is 81.6%.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of the total estimated area of 4.28 mln hectares sown, 53% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 2.268 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 35%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 20%, while the five-year average for the period is 46.2%.
In Goiás, out of a total sown area of 4.65 mln hectares, 57% were reaped, or approximately 2.651 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 44%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 60%. The five-year average for the period is 51.8%.
In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.4 mln hectares sown, 40% were reaped, or approximately 560 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 29%. In the same period last year, 20% had been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 35.2%.
In Minas Gerais, out of a total sown area of 2.2 mln hectares, 38% were reaped, equivalent to approximately 836 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 25%. In the same period last year, 35% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 31.8%.
In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 2 mln hectares, 10% were reaped, or approximately 200 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 8%. In the same period last year, 10% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 13.8%.
Climate forecast maps now point to greater moisture over the states in the South, North and Northeast regions in the period between March 3 and 9. Part of the state of Mato Grosso also receives more relevant moisture. In other states, in the Southeast and Midwest regions, rains are expected but with lower accumulation.
In the period between March 10 and 16, the highest accumulations are expected for the states of Pará, Maranhão, and Piauí. In other states, lower moisture is expected.
