Brazilian soybean harvest advances and is more than 50% complete

     Porto Alegre, March 7, 2022 – The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean crop had reasonable progress in most states last week. The advance of machines has already reached half of the area sown in the country. Moreover, the work pace remains well ahead of the previous year and the 5-year average for the period.

     According to a survey carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, until March 4, 50.5% had been reaped from a total planted area of 40.78 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 20.599 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 41.8%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 34.2%. The 5-year average for the period is 41.1%.

     In Rio Grande do Sul, out of a total planted area of 6.3 mln hectares, 4% were reaped, or approximately 252 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 1%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 1%. The 5-year average for the period is 2.9%.

     In Paraná, of a total area of 5.65 mln hectares, 37% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 2.091 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 32%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 25%, while the 5-year average for the period is 41.6%.

     In Mato Grosso, of a total sown area of 10.9 mln hectares, 90% were reaped, or approximately 9.81 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 78%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 67%. The 5-year average for the period is 76.2%.

     In Mato Grosso do Sul, of a total sown area of 3.8 mln hectares, 62% were reaped, or approximately 2.356 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 50%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 40%, while the 5-year average for the period is 57.6%.

     In Goiás, of a total sown area of 3.94 mln hectares, 71% were reaped, or approximately 2.797 mln hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 57%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 45%. The 5-year average for the period is 50.2%.

     In São Paulo, of a total sown area of 1.22 mln hectares, 34% were reaped, or approximately 415 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 25%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 50%, while the 5-year average for the period is 41%.

     In Minas Gerais, of a total area estimated at 2 mln hectares, 35% were reaped, or approximately 700 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 26%. In the same period of the previous year, the percentage was 33%. The 5-year average for the period is 31.4%.

     In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 1.78 mln hectares, 27% were reaped, or approximately 481 thousand hectares. In the previous week, the percentage was 21%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 6%. The 5-year average for the period is 10.4%.

     Weather forecasts point to strong moisture in Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí and Pará in the period between March 4 and 10. Rio Grande do Sul should also receive rain in the period.

     In the period between March 11 and 17, moisture should spread throughout the country, with the largest accumulation levels remaining over the states of Mato Grosso and the North and Northeast regions.
