Brazilian physical coffee market detaches from ICE and goes down

The domestic market is looking for a bottom, showing resistance to the strong negative pressure coming from the external benchmark. The soaring dollar serves as an ally, along with the sellers’ withdrawal. Good cup from the south of Minas is pegged at BRL 945, with a few sellers asking BRL 990 a bag. It is clear that the sellers’ reference in the short term is the recovery of the level of BRL 1,000 per bag. Fine cup from Cerrado and Mogiana ranges from BRL 970 to 1,050 per 60 kg bag.

Rio cup in Matas de Minas, after changing hands at BRL 750 in early November, is showing strength and bidded at BRL 790 a bag, with some sellers already asking BRL 820 for a 60-kg bag. Low physical availability justifies this positive realignment. Finally, conillon type 7/8 in Colatina, Espírito Santo, is bidded around BRL 540 a bag, against offers at BRL 560 a bag. The market is trying to build a bottom, but still not showing enough strength to sustain a bullish move.
