Porto Alegre, February 7, 2024 – The harvest of the new Brazilian soybean season once again registered strong progress in the period between January 27 and February 2. The less moist climate allowed farm machines to advance well into most of the states of the Midwest, Southeast, and South (Paraná), improving the pace compared to the previous week.

According to research carried out by SAFRAS & Mercado, through February 2, 15.7% were reaped from a total sown area of 45.359 mln hectares, equivalent to approximately 7.139 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 9.0%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 7.8%. The five-year average for the period is 10.4%.

In Paraná, out of a total area of 5.9 mln hectares sown, 22% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 1.298 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 15%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 3%, while the five-year average for the period is 9.8%.

In Mato Grosso, out of a total sown area of 12.05 mln hectares, 39% were reaped, or approximately 4.7 mln hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 22%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 24%. The five-year average for the period is 28.0%.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, out of the total estimated area of 4.28 mln hectares sown, 8% were reaped, or the equivalent of approximately 342 thousand hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 5%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 3%, while the five-year average for the period is 6.9%.

In Goiás, out of a total sown area of 4.65 mln hectares, 12% were reaped, or approximately 558 thousand hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 7%. In the same period last year, the percentage was 5%. The five-year average for the period is 5.8%.

In São Paulo, out of a total area estimated at 1.4 mln hectares sown, 10% were reaped, or approximately 140 thousand hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 1%. In the same period last year, 2% had been reaped. The five-year average for the period is 3.2%.

In Minas Gerais, out of a total sown area of 2.2 mln hectares, 3% were reaped, equivalent to approximately 66 thousand hectares. The previous week, the percentage was 1%. In the same period last year, 1% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 3.1%.

In Bahia, out of a total sown area of 2 mln hectares, 1% was reaped, or approximately 20 thousand hectares. The week before, there were no data. In the same period last year, 1% had been reaped, while the five-year average for the period is 1.2%.

Climate forecast maps now indicate reasonable rainfall over the states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, and states in the North and Northeast regions in the period between February 4 and 10, which could impede better harvest progress, but be favorable to the development of crops sown later. In other states, little or no moisture is forecast for the period.

In the period between February 11 and 17, moisture should be lower in the states of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Bahia and Piauí. The other states should receive reasonable moisture.
